How to choose motorcycle brake pads

Brake pads are not the place to save money. They decide how quickly and predictably your bike stops. The right choice depends on how you ride, which discs you run and the weather you ride in most.

Brake pad compounds

  • Organic pads – quiet, gentle on discs and good bite from cold. Ideal for everyday riding, classic bikes and lighter motorcycles.
  • Sintered pads – stronger, more consistent braking, better performance in the wet and longer life. The most common choice for modern road and sport bikes.
  • Carbon and race compounds – made for track days and aggressive riding where brakes run at high temperatures.

Finding the right pads for your bike

Every pad has a manufacturer code, such as EBC FA or TRW MCB. The fastest way is to check the code by model and year of your motorcycle or by the type of brake caliper. For older bikes with drum brakes you will also find brake shoes in our range.

When to replace brake pads

Replace the pads when the friction material is worn down to about 2 mm, or when you hear squealing or feel weaker braking. Always replace both sides on the same axle. New pads need bedding in – brake smoothly for the first few dozen kilometres and avoid hard stops.
