Hand polishing of the car
Compounds, polishes, pads and polishers for removing swirls and scratches and restoring gloss – from Koch Chemie, Flex, Rupes and Finixa.
Compound, polish, finish
Paint correction works in stages. A heavy cut compound with a firm pad removes deeper scratches, a polish with a medium pad refines the surface, and a finishing polish with a soft pad brings out maximum gloss. Always start with the least aggressive combination that does the job.
Rotary or dual-action
A dual-action (DA) polisher, for example from Flex or Rupes, is safer for beginners – it does not build up as much heat and is less likely to burn through the paint. A rotary polisher cuts faster but needs experience.
Measure the paint thickness before heavy correction and mask off plastic trims and edges with masking tape.
