COLOURLOCK Old Leather Softener is a special oil designed to restore the elasticity of hardened, shrunken, or stiffened leather. Over time and due to neglected maintenance, leather fibers stick together and dry out, leading to cracking. This product penetrates deeply into the material's structure, loosens stiffened fibers, and returns the leather its necessary suppleness.
Structure restoration: Permanently loosens stiffened leather fibers.
Damage prevention: Significantly reduces the risk of further cracking and breaking of old leather.
Preparation for repair: Ideal basic step before professional renovation and coloring.
Life extension: Returns original softness to precious historical pieces.
The product is primarily intended for older, untreated, and stiff leather:
Veterans: Renovation of original leather interiors.
Antique furniture: Restoration of historical chairs and sofas.
Museum exhibits: Conservation and softening of leather artifacts.
Leather goods: Older leather suitcases, belts, or cases.
Preparation: First thoroughly clean the leather surface (e.g. COLOURLOCK Mild/Strong Cleaner) and let it dry.
Work order: If the leather requires crack repairs using liquid leather, perform them before applying the softener.
Application: Apply the Softener to a sponge or soft cloth and evenly rub it over the leather surface. Tip: If possible (e.g. with removed covers), apply the product from the reverse side of the leather – absorption will be more effective.
Action: After application, let the leather rest for at least 24 hours at room temperature.
Mechanical processing: After each layer, gently "massage," bend, and knead the leather in your hands. This mechanical movement helps to loosen the fibers.
Repeat: Repeat the process if necessary, but no more than 3 times. Up to 1 liter of product is used for a fully hardened vehicle interior.
Finishing: If you plan to color the leather afterward, the surface must be degreased again. Finally, treat the leather with a conservation product.
Shake well before use!
Sensitivity test: Always test the product first on a hidden spot. Observe changes in color and feel (touch sensation).
Warning: The Softener cannot work miracles on extremely shrunken leather (where thermal damage to proteins has occurred), but it can significantly improve the condition of dry leather.
Storage: Protect from frost and high temperatures.
